Weekend Today

15 October 2016
Weekend Today in the Mudgee Region.

On Saturday morning, over 2 million Australians woke up with the Mudgee Region from the comfort of their home. Channel 9's Weekend Today took the short 3.5 hour drive to skip town + reset their senses in our beautiful region.

Here's a behind the scenes sneak peek at what Julie Snook + the Weekend Today crew explored.

First stop was the stunning Dunns Swamp which is set on the banks of the Cudgegong Valley, just 25km east of Rylstone + Kandos. Can you spot the kayaker? Imagine the bliss.

Weekend Today in Dunns Swamp

Robert Stein

From the stunning + peaceful surrounds of Dunns Swamp the crew traveled through the historic town of Rylstone to make their way onto Robert Stein Winery in Mudgee

Time to experience the true sustainable farm life with Jacob Stein

Pipeclay Pumphouse

Julie Snook in Pipeclay Pumphouse

Julie met with chef + owner Andy Crestani at Pipeclay Pumphouse. The restaurant has a strong focus on Paddock to Plate meaning home grown or locally sourced.

Olives

Next stop - The Olive Nest which is just a hop, skip + a jump away. Julie met with owners Sue + Neil Clubb who produce a unique range of olive oils + olive products.

Pieter Van Gent Winery

Time to explore the history of winemaking in the Mudgee Region at Pieter Van Gent Winery. Weekend Today filmed in the breathtaking barrel room with wine maker Philip Van Gent.

Roth's Cherry Orchard

Back to nature at Roth's Cherry Orchard. It was a perfect Spring day to wander along the cherry trees with owner Guy Roth showing Julie the stunning blooms + bee pollination. You can come + pick your own cherries in November.

Cellar By Gilbert + High Valley Cheese

A visit to Mudgee Region wouldn't be complete without feasting on the local produce. So the crew hit the road again for the short 5 minute trip to Cellar By Gilbert for a taste testing of High Valley Cheese.

Mudgee Town

With the day nearly done + the sun setting over the hills that surround Mudgee Town it was time for shots of the stunning Clock Tower, Alby + Esthers, Elton's + Mudgee Brewing Co

The next morning Julie + the Weekend Today crew were up early for the sunrise at Lowe Wines. This is when the magic happened.

The Zin House

A treat for the taste buds with Julie exploring the beautiful vegetable garden at The Zin House + meeting Chef Kim Currie who created one of her outstanding dishes from the Mudgee Region hatted restaurant.
Mudgee Region Wine Makers
That's a wrap. Cheers to the amazing Mudgee Region wine makers + everyone involved in making the day such a treat.
