The reading of the Kangaroo in contemporary art is rich in both historical and social narrative. What’s That Skip? looks at a number of representations ranging from the TV series ‘Skippy the Bush Kangaroo’ to vulnerable creatures; from nostalgia and tourist souvenirs to the animal as social and political activists. Satirical, absurdist, serious and thought-provoking, this group exhibition (re)examines the most celebrated native fauna, considered internationally as the truest expression of Australia.
