Large Floral Paintings Workshop at Rosby

WHEN: 9.30am-4.00pm, Saturday 4th + Sunday 5th May 2019

WHERE: Rosby, 122 Strikes Lane, Eurunderee MUDGEE

COST: $210 per student with complimentary lunch and Rosby Wines

ARTIST TUTOR: David Newman-White

Create a fabulous floral masterpiece during this indulgent two-day art and wine weekend. Learn how to work with canvas to compose a body of work, modelling oil or acrylic paint and featuring an informal floral still life arrangement. You’ll also take away a thorough understanding of the colour theory, relating to complimentary and opposite colours, plus light and shade.


About the tutor:

David Newman-White has been a tutor at Rosby for 8 years and now tutors exclusively for Rosby Art Workshops. He is a highly experienced, accomplished and respected artist and tutor, specialising in painting and drawing. He runs workshops throughout NSW and interstate and tutors for the National Trust’s Norman Lindsay Gallery and Museum summer drawing program. In 2016 he was named as one of the ‘40 Maitres du Pastel’ (‘40 Masters of Pastel’), in a new book produced by Pratique des Arts, France. He has been employed by TAFE NSW for the past thirty-seven years, teaching Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses in Fine Art. In 2017 he was commissioned by the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery to do 10 large scale portraits of Hawkesbury Regional artists for an exhibition titled, 'The Art of Ageing'. In 2017 also wa published by OZ Arts Magazine, October 'Spring Edition'

David brings with him a wealth of knowledge and an exceptional learning environment. His passion for the arts is contagious and his determination to impart knowledge in an engaging, fun, interactive and supportive setting sets him apart.


List of materials required to bring:

- Source a picture of a flower you want to paint and print it onto good quality A4 photographic paper

- Print the same image in black & white onto a standard photocopy paper

- Ruler, pencil 2B & vinyl eraser 

- Canvas - 80cm x 100cm, 100cm x 100cm, 100cm x 120cm, or 100cm x 150cm

- Winton paints, Winsor & Newton Artist paints, or Art Spectrum. 

Colours:

Reds – Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red , Magenta, Cadmium Orange.

Yellows – Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Naples Yellow

Blues – Ultramarine Blue or French Ultramarine, Ceurulean Blue, Cobalt Blue. Phthalo blue

Earth – Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre

White - Large tube of Titanium White

Purples – Purple Lake (Winsor & Newton only), Dioxazine Purple

Greens – Viridian, Olive green, sap green

Mediums: Bottle of Lean Medium & Odorless Solvent

Brushes:

Flat - Mon Marte synthetic brushes for finishing (a pack of mixed flats & a pack of mixed rounds)

Bristle Brushes: 0-16 flats in size one of each, they usually range ‘0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16

- Also bring rags, tin cans (no glass) Hat, drink bottle, sunscreen. Dress warm & wear sensible shoes.


Basic materials will be provided, limited numbers per workshop. Book in early to secure your place.
