2017 Rylstone Wood Sculpture Symposium
Outcannel or Incannel? A Sculptor’s Tool Bag .
Strange names for a chisel, but strange sounding tools are all part of sculptor’s tool bag. Ten sculptors from across the world and state will be investing in the Mudgee region in the form of a ten day Wood Sculpture Symposium that opens on 19 October. The artists will be creating sculptures that are ultimately destined for permanent public display at various locations throughout the region.
Each artist will bring a unique tool bag and skill-set with which to tackle the objective of creating a provocative, beautiful work from a 2.4m hunk of Ribbon Gum. These works will be based on concept drawings submitted to a selection panel that included curators from Bathurst Gallery, Orana Arts and Western Plains Cultural Centre. These 10 sculptors are realising their selected entry. The artists will be in action for public viewing every day of the symposium from 9am to 5pm (except lunchtime from 1-2pm) at the Rylstone Showground, Cudgegong Street, Rylstone NSW 2849.
Come along on any day, or every day, and follow the progress of these talented sculptors at play. Entry is free.
