Day one: Sculpt your own classical torso from scratch; learning the sculpting techniques of the masters to manipulate the clay into your unique interpretation. Once we have a finished sculpture, we will go through the steps to create a reusable silicone mould of our masterpiece. By the end of the day we will have a completed mould, ready to open and cast from in the morning.
Day two: We will discuss how best to open our mould to give us a long wearing, reusable mould, suitable for all resin and gypsum types. After preparing the mould for a resin pour, we will discuss the process of cold casting and look at the various options available. We will then cast our piece in either copper, aluminum, bronze or brass. Once our piece is set, we will open the moulds to reveal our casting.
Detailing and patination will follow to give us our final sculpture. Students will take home the reusable mould and the finished sculpture.
