By growing grapes organically, in balance with the environment with hand picking and pruning, Botobolar is able to produce hand crafted premium quality organic wines.
Botobolar is also known for being the original creator of organic preservative free wines. Since 1984 we have been producing preservative free wine and continue to investigate innovative processes to deliver the best wine we can, we are Australia’s leader in minimal input winemaking.
Botobolar has always made a commitment to the environment, long before it was fashionable. Not only is the vineyard organic, we have made conscious decisions in our packaging so it is sustainable as possible. We utilise lean green bottles, which are 25% lighter than most, and pack all wine into unbleached brown boxes. Furthering the commitment to sustainability, in 2010 we built a 10KW array of solar panels to power the winery.
Botobolar’s organic dry land vineyard is famous for producing rich and spicy Shiraz, chocolate and mint Cabernet Sauvignon, and Busby clone Chardonnay grapes. This bit of earth delivers some of the best grapes in the district.
With an outdoor BBQ and picnic area this is the perfect place to come share a bottle of wine and have lunch in an atmosphere of bird songs and peacefulness. Take your own walk thru the vineyard and enjoy what nature has to offer.
The Botobolar Philosophy:
Organic Grape Growing at Botobolar: No pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers are sprayed in the vineyard. The vines are not irrigated. The vines are widely space to increase ventilation, catch the sun and give space for hand picking. The uncultivated under vine area hides earthworms, shield bugs, mice, quail and beetles. Wasps control caterpillars. Spiders control moths. Foxes control hares.
