A dark country night sky is an astronomical wonder and 2025 delivers its fair share of stellar events!

  • March 14: Partial Lunar Eclipse
  • May 6-7: Eta Aquariids Meteor Shower, with the best viewing one hour before sunrise
  • June 27: Moon and Mercury met up, with the best viewing one hour after sunset
  • August 12: Venus and Jupiter's Close Encounter, with the best viewing one hour before sunrise
  • September 7-8: Partial Lunar Eclipse
  • September 19: Moon, Venus and Regulus in Celestial Group Hug, with the best viewing up until one hour before sunrise
  • October 2 to November 7: Orionids Meteor Shower. The maximum activity will be on October 21, with the best viewing one hour before sunrise
  • November 10 to November 21: Leonids Meteor Shower. The maximum activity will be on November 18, with the best viewing one hour before sunrise
  • December 13-14: Geminds Meteor Shower Peaks, with the best viewing one hour before sunrise

For most events you won't need a telescope or binoculars, however if you really want to get closer to the action book in a visit to the Mudgee Observatory.
