Grab your picnic blanket, bring your furry friend and soak in the picture-perfect vineyard views at Bunnamagoo Estate. Boasting award-winning Chardonnay, live music, and complimentary wine tastings, there’s something for everyone.
Bunnamagoo, just six kilometres from the centre of Mudgee, captivates you from the moment you step foot on the property. The winding footpath invites you into the modern cellar door, framed by floor-to-ceiling glass windows that evoke a sense of spaciousness and connection to the countryside. In winter, bask in the warmth from the sun-drenched windows. When spring and summer roll around, you’ll want nothing more than to feel that beautiful breeze on your face beneath the shaded outdoor umbrellas. Your view is just as good as the wine on your table; overlooking the dam and vineyard, the lawn beckons for a delightfully relaxing picnic. When sunset hits, the landscape becomes awash with a golden hue; the sunlight bouncing off the lush green lawns. And that’s just the surroundings – there’s even more to love about Bunnamagoo Wines.
The team believes that “Wine is more than just a drink; it’s an experience that tells a story and reflects the passion of the people who create it.” From lush views to award-winning wines and live music across long weekends, Bunnamagoo certainly feels like a place where you could lose track of time.
With spring's arrival, the region bursts into life with new buds, a fresh Bunnamagoo vintage is on its way and the cellar door’s gardens are blooming in vibrant green. When you’re not soaking in the beauty of Mudgee’s blossoms, join the team over the October long weekend. The atmosphere will be buzzing with live music and a food truck selling delicious eats over Saturday and Sunday. Bring the whole family (including your pet), along with blankets, and feel the grass between your toes as you picnic and sip. If your basket needs topping up, choose your favourite local produce from the cellar door. You’ll find everything from Aril Estate's jams, Honey Haven’s liquid gold honey and Pebbly Path’s delectable rocky roads – to name a few.
Bunnamagoo focuses on individual, traditionally made wines. It’s an approach that has won the winery several awards, including their Paspaley Reserve Chardonnay, known for its super smooth texture, tropical notes and elegant creamy finish. It aligns perfectly with the winery’s philosophy of producing wines that capture the distinct characteristics of the region. Mudgee is home to some of the earliest plantings of Chardonnay in Australia, and Eurunderee – the area where Bunnamagoo is located – was once home to Chardonnay vines planted in 1858. In addition to Chardonnay, you can look forward to savouring varieties like Semillon, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and more.
While most cellar door stories begin with vines, Bunnamagoo (meaning “the meeting of the waters” in the local Indigenous language) comes from a family with a history of pearls. The cellar door is the sister to the Bunnamagoo Homestead, the second oldest homestead built over the Great Dividing Range, dating back to 1827. For the past 30-plus years, it has been owned by the Paspaley family, who, alongside their success in pearls, discovered a passion for winemaking. In the 1990s, a vineyard was planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, quickly gaining a reputation for its high-quality wine grapes. And thus, Bunnamagoo wines were born.
