No boring socks here: a dad’s guide to the Mudgee Region

Forget the socks and undies this Father’s Day - it’s time to give dad something he’ll really enjoy this September; a trip to the Mudgee Region!

Swap the backyard chores for brewery views, the soccer coaching for outdoor country adventures and the remote control for a scenic drive through the Mudgee Region.

Whether he’s chasing the perfect craft beer, a bit of local history or simply a quiet spot to put his feet up, the Mudgee Region delivers the ultimate dad-approved escape.

For the dad that loves a beer or a rum: Mudgee Brewing Co, Clover Cellars, Three Tails Brewery, Small Batch Brewery and Baker Williams Distillery.

For dads who know their lagers from their IPAs, Mudgee serves up the perfect pint-sized (dad joke!) adventure.

Beyond its famous vineyards, the region has a bustling craft beer scene, where passionate brewers are pouring fresh, flavour-packed beers, made with a generous serve of country character.

For a laid-back microbrewery located in the heart of the CBD, head to Mudgee Brewing Co. Enjoy one of their high-quality craft beers, with the on-site brewing equipment as your backdrop. Head to Clover Cellars and sample some great local brews with a side of Irish charm, and plenty of space for the kids to run free. For beer, BBQ and good times, head to Three Tails Brewery. Select a brew from their 21 taps and then head outside to soak up the sun in their beer garden. For views of the rolling hills and small-scale beers brewed on site, you’ll love Small Batch Brewery and Hop Farm. Wile away the afternoon with a tasting paddle, delicious food from Bao2Mi food truck and classic country hospitality.

For dads who don't mind a drop or two of rum, head to Baker Williams Distillery. Fresh off winning a gold medal for their Single Barrel Rum at the Australian International Spirit Awards at Melbourne Royal, this small-batch distillery is sure to be a hit with dad.

For the dad that love his sport: Club Mudgee

Dad will love Club Mudgee’s The Hub Sports Bar - a haven for sport enthusiasts, with an added bonus of an ever-changing variety of craft beers on-tap.

The bar features Mudgee’s biggest screens, so whether dad is an AFL, NRL, NFL,

NBA, or recently converted hockey fan, he’ll be cheering here with a cold schooner in-hand. Pop over to the pool table for a friendly game of pool or give the darts boards a crack - dad won’t be bored at Club Mudgee!

For the active dad: outdoor adventures

Who says the kids should have all the fun? Challenge dad to a friendly game of basketball, futsal, pickleball or soccer at Mudgee's new Multi-Sport Court, or let him channel his inner teenager at the pump track and skate park. If two wheels are more his speed, the Mudgee Common Mountain Bike Trails offer kilometres of scenic riding through native bushland, with tracks suited to both beginners and seasoned riders. The Gulgong Adventure Park is perfect for dads who love a bit of friendly competition, with plenty of space to run, play and burn off some energy. Prefer something a little slower? Pack a picnic and head to The Drip or Ferntree Gully for spectacular walks that are worth every step.

For the history buff: Gulgong

If your dad is a sucker for history, take him to Gulgong. This 19th-century gold mine town is lined with heritage-listed buildings, and rich with gold mining history. Take dad to the Gulgong Holtermann Museum to check out their huge collection of photographs celebrating Gulgong’s gold rush hey day, or visit the Gulgong Pioneers Museum, home to one of the finest collections of Australiana in the country.
