It’s the region’s self-confessed “night of nights” – and if you live in the Mudgee Region, or you’ve attended Flavours of Mudgee before, you know the locals take their “Flavours” very seriously.
Since 2012, Flavours of Mudgee has been a must-attend event on the region’s social calendar, attracting visitors who want to see what all the fuss is about and locals keen to embrace the opportunity to drink in the street.
This year, more than 10,000 people are expected to flock to Flavours, ready to sip, taste and sample their way across 60 local food and wine stalls.
With so much to see, taste and do, a little planning goes a long way. Whether you’re coming with friends, bringing the kids or making a night of it, here are our top tips for getting the most out of Flavours this year.
Plan ahead: you know what they say: “preparation prevents poor performance,” and that adage has never been truer than for an evening at Flavours. A little work ahead of the big night will make for a stress-free Flavours experience, so get your organising cap on early! Pre-purchase and pre-collect your tasting cups and tokens so you’re not facing long lines on the night, and plan your stalls so you’ve got a rough itinerary for the evening.
Dress for the occasion: spray tans, event make-up, a new dress, you name it – Flavours’ looks are a vibe. But sensible Flavourinos know that practicality often beats fashion for the big night, and dressing for the occasion is money well-spent. Invest in comfortable shoes, a sizeable bag for your purchases, tasting cup and tokens, and a jacket for that often-misleading September weather.
Get in early: the early bird definitely gets the worm at Flavours of Mudgee. Queues and wait times start to ramp up as the evening progresses, so arrive early to secure your food and tastings, find a prime position along the main streets and soak up the electric atmosphere.
Be adventurous: Flavours of Mudgee is all about tasting the literal flavours of the region. This is a prime opportunity to try different types of wine, drops from diverse producers, and foods that aren’t usually on your dinner rotation. Use your tasting tokens to sample something outside your comfort zone – you might just find a new favourite vino along the way!
Take the kids: wondering whether Flavours is kid-friendly? It absolutely is. Your kids will LOVE Flavours of Mudgee. The Kids Treat Package, complete with three tasting tokens and a souvenir tumbler, allows littlies to be part of the fun, selecting their own sweets and treats. They’ll also love the live music, the street performers and all the sights and sounds that make Flavours of Mudgee unique. Take a picnic rug, find a spot on the grass outside St John’s Anglican Church and let the kids boogie the night away.
Embrace the party: Flavours of Mudgee is really where Mudgee comes to life. The event literally takes over Church and Market streets, and for a few hours, it’s like there’s a party in the middle of town and everyone is invited. There’s something special about being able to wander down Mudgee’s historic main streets while sipping an espresso martini. Ahhh, bliss. Embrace the vibrant atmosphere – the live music, the roving street performers, the photo booth, the spectacle of it all – and you’ll feel all the Flavours’ feels.
Are you ready? Pop Saturday, September 26, from 4pm to 8pm in your diary for the 2026 Flavours of Mudgee. We’ll be the ones in the sensible shoes…
