This is no ordinary weekend away.
This is a big one. We’re talking about the celebration that marks landing a new job in the same week as a wedding anniversary, plus a family reunion and a significant birthday (yes, that one – with a zero on the end). All the milestones have come at once, so this group getaway has to be major and memorable.
Let’s start with the wine.
Huntington Estate produces world-class wine, bursting with all the qualities that make Mudgee wine special. It starts with unique local soil conditions, just made for growing strong, flavourful grapes. Add in a winemaker who cares for the land, the fruit, and the wine (in this case, it’s Tim Stevens, owner of this family-run vineyard) and a cosy, old-school cellar door, where you can sit around a big timber table and let the Huntington team walk you through a tasting of fine wines.
Now, everyone’s going to have their favourite drop, so you’d better take home one of each!
Next stop: Honey Haven Mudgee for a taste of the sweet life.
Try a variety of local honey – each a little different, depending on the blossoms around the beehives. Honey Haven Mudgee is also an homage to all things bees - think mead, honey lollipops, beeswax melts, honey lip balm and moisturiser; those bees have been busy! Sit down at the café for a coffee and a snack.
It’s not really a getaway without a little shopping.
And you’re on holiday, so you’re not even spending real money! Cloth and Feather is Mudgee’s home of exquisite homewares. Everything from linen to lamps has been carefully selected by the team – it’s classic and the best possible quality. Pick out a few pieces to bring a touch of Mudgee Region home with you or refurnish your whole house - from the curtains to the cushions!
A true taste of the Mudgee Region is waiting for you on Saturday morning at the Mudgee Farmers’ Markets. Robertson Park comes alive on the third Saturday of each month with the best, freshest and tastiest produce that the region has to offer. Start by picking up a freshly brewed coffee, then wander among the stalls, get lost in the crowd and take in the atmosphere of a Mudgee market morning. Taste everything. Organic wines. Vegetables and meat fresh from the farm. Local olives. Brandy. Gin. Biscotti. Even treats for the dog. It’s iconic. It’s authentic. It’s delicious.
Now, you promised the group something special. A country experience that’s a luxury outing and a treat for the senses and a bit of a party.
The Barn at Blue Wren Farm fits the brief, with its seasonal menu of simple, delicious food, drawn from the best local produce wherever possible. Every dish is an exquisite balance of culinary skill and freshly harvested ingredients. And you can’t celebrate Mudgee Region produce without a drinks list highlighting beloved local wines and brews, alongside selections from around the world.
At the end of the day, you’re going to settle in for a spacious country stay at Peppertree Farm. You’re far from the city lights here, surrounded by fields and vineyards. Each couple can have their own cottage – take your pick first! Do you want a panoramic view at the top of the hill or a cosy stay on the waterfront by the dam? Or you can stay and celebrate together in the four-bedroom Stags Head Retreat. Put on some music and open a bottle of wine or two – it’s the perfect end to a memorable Mudgee Region weekend.
