With its seemingly endless rolling hills, roaming kangaroos, and breathtaking vistas, Mudgee is practically made for taking time out from the daily hustle and bustle. And what better way to switch off than in a secluded cabin, complete with uninterrupted views of the countryside?

This growing trend in the tourism industry proves that while Tiny Homes may be small, their popularity is anything but. Mudgee’s latest addition, Piambong Tops, has been designed and constructed by the award-winning Base Cabin – and it certainly shows. Bookings officially opened in July 2024 and our hunch is that you’ll want to book soon.

Perched on a rural hilltop in the locality of Piambong (pronounced ‘P-eye-ambong’), Piambong Tops is an easy 20-minute drive from both Gulgong and Mudgee and a three-hour drive from Sydney. You’ll feel a strong sense of seclusion on the 32-acre property – enough to feel alone among the wide-open star-studded sky – yet close enough to savour the delights of the region’s rural towns and villages.

Every millimetre of this architecturally designed home has been thoughtfully utilised by the team at Base Cabin and Lauren Eagan Interiors. Drawing inspiration from the practical and rugged design of original Australian shearer's quarters, Piambong Tops is right at home in the Australian bush. Inside, you’ll find a full bathroom and kitchenette, a queen bedroom fitted with luxe linen sheets, and a living room meets a second bedroom.

Each element, from the Australian-made Brodware nickel tapware to the Laminex paperbark cabinetry and Fibonacci Italian terrazzo benchtops, adds to the rugged yet luxurious aesthetic of the cabin. The main rooms at each end feature full-height, open-pitched ceilings, enhancing the sense of spaciousness and framing the dramatic views beyond. The floor-to-ceiling windows serve as a magnifying glass to the horizon, drawing the landscape into the living space. With double glazing, they create a cosy cocoon-like atmosphere during the winter months, blending openness with warmth.
