Winter in Mudgee is magic in its own right: crisp, clean air, sunsets that flirt with fire, and irresistible red wines that warm the soul. But at Lazy Oak Wines, the season is turned up a notch. Think fire-cooked feasts, shiraz infused with notes of pepper and spice, and acoustic music beneath festooned fairy lights. Grab a coat and bring your appetite, because Lazy Oak is heating up this winter.

Winter, the Lazy Oak way

Nestled between Mudgee and Gulgong, Lazy Oak Wines is a family-owned winery known for its warm hospitality, relaxed ambience and a touch of the unexpected. Have you ever tried a glass of white merlot? If this excites you, wait until you see their lineup of winter events. Paula, Lazy Oak's owner, says: “Pairing wine with winter naturally calls for red wines. A Lazy Oak shiraz, with its hint of pepper and spice, is the perfect complement to our winter events.”

“There's something magical about cosying up by the fire pits, enjoying great red wine, and savouring delicious food cooked over the fire,” she adds. “Winter may be a time when most people hibernate, but at Lazy Oak, it's an opportunity to create unforgettable experiences.”

Between crackling flames and the hum of acoustic guitars, the Lazy Oak vibe is equal parts festive and down-to-earth. There’s an everyday tapas and pizza menu on offer now too, making winter afternoons at Lazy Oak all the more enticing.

Winter events that dial up the heat

Lazy Oak’s winter calendar is full of events that blend food, fire, and fun, each with its unique twist.

Every Friday? Drinks at Dusk is your go-to. Tapas and stone-fired pizzas with seasonally rotating toppings (we see you, fig, prosciutto and brie) pair beautifully with a chilled glass of white merlot or bold shiraz as the fairy lights flicker on.

Join Paula and her team for Fireside Tapas Nights every Saturday in May, June and July, to experience three fire stations serving up sizzling small plates cooked before your eyes.

Lock in the date for Barrels + Bands on Friday 6 June for an epic evening of local bands, and all your favourites right from the barrel - think wine, whisky and perfectly brewed beers. And don't worry about getting hungry because there is an awesome line up of food ready to satisfy your cravings.

But if you’re looking to go out with a bang, Fire + Spice is the main event on 30 August: a bold, flavour-packed celebration of winter. Think Spanish, Korean and Mexican cuisine meets cocktails, local brews and soul-soothing wines, all backdropped by music from the five-piece band Steel City Rockers.

Whether it’s a blazing feast or a simple sip by the fire, Lazy Oak turns winter into something worth celebrating.
