2024 has been an exciting year for Mudgee, with various new cellar doors, retreats, and accommodations popping up in the region. Among these, The Clairfield Hotel is the fresh face that brings a modern, city-chic flair to the outskirts of town.
After officially unveiling its doors in August, this boutique hotel has been turning heads with its sophisticated approach to hospitality and design. While the Mudgee Region has long been a go-to destination for those seeking rural seclusion, The Clairfield adds an extra layer of style and substance, blending chic style with country hospitality.
The Clairfield’s character harmonises the hotel’s aesthetic with the region’s landscape. The colour palette is inspired by the surrounding eucalypts, autumn leaves, and the region's spring cherry blossoms, reflected in rich materials like marble, linen, and sandstone. Spotted gum joinery and brass detailing introduce timeless sophistication, while sandstone crazy paving adds a textural nod to the outdoors.
In your room, the neutral tones, plush textures, and curated artwork evoke a sense of calm, much like Mudgee’s natural beauty. Beautiful large windows invite you to connect with the outdoors, while the interior design stays true to The Clairfield’s philosophy of balancing elegance with comfort.
The Mudgee Region is peppered with brilliant dining experiences and Gigi’s, featuring Head Chef Sam Potter, has quickly secured its spot at the top. Showcasing local flavours, Gigi’s is a celebration of the region’s soul and “the feeling of every place you've ever felt at home,” comments a Clairfield employee.
Wander down for breakfast daily, or dinner from Thursday to Saturday, and take a seat in the contemporary restaurant where light timber furnishings, olive trees, and earthy tones mirror Mudgee’s landscape. The design pairs beautifully with a menu that highlights the region’s freshest produce. Be sure to try guest favourites like the tender slow-roasted lamb shoulder or the melt-in-your-mouth beef short rib.
When you’re after dinner or a tipple or two, The Flour Bin bar is your go-to spot. Named after Henry Lawson’s famous poem, it ties the restaurant back to Mudgee’s heritage, paying homage to Lawson’s reflections of growing up in the region. Pull up a high stool in the intimate 30-seater dining area to fix your appetite with grazing plates, hearty mains, wood-fired pizzas and more, alongside a handpicked selection of local wines and beers.
Did someone say relaxation? The Clairfield is breaking new ground in the region with the luxurious Jila Wellness – the first of its kind in Mudgee – and perhaps the most aesthetic pool area in town.
