From deluxe suites to an on-site swimming pool and one of Mudgee’s most popular dining spots – Charnwood Food & Wine – the Winning Post Motor Inn Motel goes above and beyond your average motel.
Mudgee’s Church Street is a hub of well-established eateries, charming accommodations, and bars that pour the region’s finest wines. At number 101, you’ll find it all under one roof. The Winning Post Motor Inn consistently ranks as a top motel choice for visitors, with its inviting swimming pool, modern family-friendly rooms and prime location just a short walk from the town centre. But the crown jewel of this establishment is undoubtedly the Charnwood Food & Wine restaurant.
Not only serving scrumptious dishes daily, but the restaurant also doubles as a cellar door for Charnwood Estate: a boutique winery located at the foothills of the scenic Cudgegong Valley. Considering booking a table? Good choice. Here’s a taste of what awaits.
Since 1979, the Winning Post Motor Inn has shown little sign of its age, thanks to thoughtful updates that have breathed new life into the property. The latest of these is centred around Charnwood Food & Wine. In response to the restaurant’s growing popularity, the team has extended its hours to seven days a week, from 5:30pm until late. Last orders are now taken at 9 pm – perfect timing for city dwellers making the after-work dash to Mudgee for the weekend.
What’s more, the restaurant’s kitchen has been appointed a team who bring a fresh menu that draws on their Nepalese roots. Alongside those hearty pub classics like lamb cutlets and chargrilled steaks, you’ll now find dishes infused with tantalising flavours from fragrant prawn curry to tender butter chicken.
Mudgee is celebrated for its organic produce, premium vineyards and craft beer, but seafood? It’s not something that typically springs to mind in the countryside, and it’s one of the reasons Charnwood stands out. The restaurant has built a reputation for its seafood selection, personally sourced and delivered by the owner, Greg, straight from the coast.
Scanning over the menu, oyster lovers will gawk at the list of Sydney Rock Oysters with a local twist. Try the Kilpatrick oysters topped with bacon and Kilpatrick sauce, or delve into something unique with the Gin and Tonic oysters dressed with local Baker Williams Distillery Distillery gin.
The oysters are just the beginning. Charnwood Food & Wine takes pride in showcasing Mudgee’s local produce throughout its menu. With over 95 per cent of its wines sourced from nearby vineyards like the acclaimed Charnwood Estate, and local favourites like Three Tails Brewery and Baker Williams Distillery rounding out the drinks list, the restaurant offers a true taste of the region.
Charnwood’s inviting atmosphere, top-quality dishes and unique menu make this a restaurant you’ll not want to miss. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or hosting a large group, the team is ready to cater to your needs.
