The lively Woolpack Hotel is hard to beat if you’re looking for casual eats, local drinks and an authentic slice of Mudgee life in the heart of town. Located among the historic buildings of Market Street, this iconic country hotel is where it all happens.
Whether you’re looking for a leisurely sundowner in the open-air beer garden or a lively evening filled with live music and cocktails, this friendly hotspot has something for everyone – locals and visitors alike. Discover the community essence of The Woolpack, and read on to discover why the Woolpack Hotel is a must visit on your Mudgee travels.
The Woolpack Hotel’s history goes back 150 years. It started life in 1855 as ‘The Maitland Hotel’, after Mr John W. Foreman discovered the site’s potential. Today, the Woolpack retains its history, carrying the spirit and legacy of Mr Foreman’s vision: an institution ingrained in the local community.
The legacy has been carefully looked after by Gina and Jamie Fitzgerald, who have run the Woolpack since 2017. They’ve stayed true to the original ethos: to create a welcoming space where friends, locals and visitors can gather. Their dedication to the Mudgee community shows in every detail, from the locally sourced wines to the warm hospitality that greets you at the door. Whether you’re catching a live band on a Friday night, watching the sky transform with the fiery hues of sunset, or getting stuck into the weekly bingo or joker draw, you’ll feel like part of the Mudgee family here – one that’s known for its friendliness, laid-back vibes, and willingness for a laugh (the best kind, we reckon).
When hunger strikes, you’ll find plenty of comfort on The Woolpack’s menu, combining classic Aussie pub vibes and flavours that surprise. Even better, the pub’s kitchen has recently undergone an upgrade, and Jumbucks Asian Fusion – the hotel’s Chinese Fusion kitchen – is back, bigger and better, from 12 September 2024.
And that’s not all. Spring has sprung with the launch of new cocktail jugs – perfect for sunny afternoons in the beer garden. Pair it with The Woolpack’s latest culinary addition: their brand-new pizzas, which are already winning the regulars over.
If you haven’t guessed, The Woolpack likes to keep things constantly fresh. Whether it’s a new themed event – hello, Spring Fling– or monthly innovative cocktails – like August’s Lychee Martini topped with a smoky bubble – there’s always something new to try.
Don’t fancy the walk home? The Woolpack Hotel’s accommodation options cater to every kind of traveller. Choose from budget-friendly rooms that don’t skimp on comfort. You’ll feel right at home, with the best of Mudgee at your fingertips.
