You know us, we love a wine tour. But our region is blessed with much more than just vineyards. Alongside the 18th-century pubs dotted around Mudgee and Gulgong, Mudgee Brewing Co. has been pouring pints on Church Street since 1883, and in the last 100-plus years, several craft beer connoisseurs and savvy spirit makers have joined them. Today, there’s no shortage of premium paddles to sample across town and, as of 2023, we’ve got just the tour to take you there. Hopheads, you’re in for a treat.
Aptly named Mudgee Ale Trail, this brand-new tour delivers exactly what it promises – and so much more. Kicking off in March 2024, this trendy experience is the first of its kind in the region, being the only brewery and pub tour in Mudgee.
Owners Natasha and James saw a gap in the market and combined it with their dream of starting a venture that allowed more family time. Their passion for the region’s often-overlooked pubs and breweries brought Mudgee Ale Trail to life.
’There’s nothing like the atmosphere of a great brewery or country pub’, Natasha commented. ’The country’s hospitality is unlike what you experience in the city.’
You know what they say – it’s just as much about the journey as the destination. And what makes a country pub and brewery crawl even better? Jumping in the back of a 1984 Troop Carrier, of course. This isn’t just any ride; it’s a unique, social experience on wheels. Hop in with up to eight friends and cruise around the region in style.
Natasha and James discovered the Troop Carrier in Queensland and drove it back to Mudgee. Natasha shared, ’Luckily, James is quite handy and completed most of the restoration himself with a little help from a mate. We had the roof re-fibreglassed in areas and then painted by a local body works shop and we were ready to go! Everything from the fake grass on the floor, the carpet on the roof and the reupholstered seats in the back we did ourselves.’
