From Woy Woy to Budgee Budgee

Yes, you read that correctly. The owners of farmers quarters, BJ and Gav, swapped the coastal vibes of Woy Woy for the rustic charm of Budgee Budgee. As BJ says, “You can’t write it”.

It’s a move that’s as quirky as it sounds, but one that has paid off in spades. Since taking over the property in 2018, BJ and Gav have transformed what was once the Farmers Daughters Cottages into a haven for travellers seeking a bespoke Mudgee experience.

Experience an authentic connection to the Mudgee Region

At farmers quarters, every stay is tailored to suit your palate and travel style. Whether it’s a personalised itinerary crafted to take you through the best cellar doors, or the option of a personal chauffeur to whisk you around town, BJ and Gav are “All about our guests and immersing themselves in the Mudgee Region”, comments BJ.

You don’t have to lift a finger from the moment your stay begins. Freshly baked bread, farm-fresh eggs, honey and perhaps the best bit – homemade jam – await you. You’ll find local goods dotted around your accommodation, including the fragrant soap, made in Mudgee using plant matter from local suppliers.

One guest described their stay as, “The full Mudgee experience! Our hosts (BJ & Gav) went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay and that we experienced as much of Mudgee and its surrounds as possible in our short time there. We would definitely recommend staying here and we will be back”.

A day in the life at farmers quarters

Just one day at farmers quarters and you’ll find yourself slipping into serenity. Wake up to the glowing sunrise peeking its head across your private patch of land. The only interruptions you’ll have today come from Roxxy the Red Heeler and Bear the goat, eager to greet you.

Breakfast is a feast of fresh local produce, whether you choose to cook it yourself or head into town for a freshly brewed coffee. From there, the day unfolds at your own pace. Take a leisurely cheese tasting, visit a local cellar door, or indulge in a long lunch at one of the region’s recommended restaurants, vineyards, or breweries. As the day winds down, return to your private deck to soak in the ambience, imbibe local beverages and savour the region’s flavours.

The quarters

farmers quarters offer four self-contained stays, each with its unique identity and spectacular views from their private verandahs. Three-bedroom options include ‘the sojourn’, one of the property’s original stays, built circa 1970, and ‘lodge la vi’. The modern ‘drovers’ features two bedrooms, while ‘the tinshed’, the renovated original working shed of the property, is a perfect couple retreat, with one bedroom and magnificent views across Mt Buckaroo.

Coming back stronger

The journey hasn’t been without its challenges. From the bushfires of 2019 to the pandemic’s disruptions, the owners have faced their fair share of obstacles. But with each setback, they’ve come back stronger, renovating and upgrading the quarters, regenerating the vineyard, and even replacing the bore system to ensure the land thrives. Their commitment to the property and their guests is unwavering, and it shows in the details – and every returning guest.

This isn’t just their story; it’s one they share with every guest who walks through their doors.
