Introducing “Scratching the Surface” at Alby + Esthers - an exhibition by Mudgee artist Mel Shearman.
This collection of “magpie mischief” uses the Italian-led sgraffito method of applying a base layer of colour, covering it with a contrasting top layer, & then scratching through to reveal the colour beneath.
Mel has used this technique to capture the forms & rhythms of birdsong, banksias & moving grasses in this stunning collection of works.
