Join artist Seraphina Martin for a hands-on, two-day workshop exploring solar printmaking—a contemporary and accessible approach to etching that produces beautifully detailed and expressive prints.

Working with solar plates (1 × A5 or 1 × A6 plus a small test plate), the workshop will focus on both drawing-based techniques and experimental mark-making. Participants will learn how to create imagery directly onto plates using drawing film, pencils, gouache, and pens, as well as explore the use of natural and organic materials—such as leaves, lace, and feathers—to build layered and textural compositions.

Once plates are exposed, you'll be guided through a range of inking and colour printing techniques using rollers and professional printmaking inks. The emphasis will be on experimentation, colour, and process, resulting in a small collection of unique prints.

Supplied materials include:

Solar plates (1 × A5, 1 × A6, plus test plate per person) Brayers, etching inks, and tarlatan for printing Printing paper for up to 8 prints Gouache, drawing pens and pencils Drafting film A full assortment of tools including scribes, scissors, scalpel knife, masking tape, brushes, and more

This workshop is ideal for artists of all levels who wish to expand their printmaking practice, experiment with image-making, and leave with a small suite of hand-printed works and new technical skills.
